Lexus Places Third in GTD Class

From their 1-2 finish at the second Watkins Glen race, the Vasser Sullivan Lexus Racing team headed across the state line into Connecticut for another sprint race on the fabled 1.5-mile Lime Rock Park racecourse.

Lime Rock has been home for sports car racing since 1956. Many historic moments have happened here since. Our teams were ready to rise to the occasion at the Northeast Grand Prix.

The result was definitely in the favor of the Vasser Sullivan cars, even as the race was shortened by lightning strikes nearby. The number 14 RC F GT3 of Adam Telitz and Jack Hawksworth returned to the podium, placing third in the GTD class at Lime Rock. Frankie Montecalvo and Zach Veach finished tenth in class in the number 12 car.

Two weeks later, the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship headed westward to another historic motorsports venue – Road America in Wisconsin. Since 1955, the four-mile-long course has been a delight to all types of racing from its long straightaways to its challenging left-handers. Not to mention its own carousel in the middle of it all. Not the High Roller at The LINQ, the one where drivers ride a perfect half-circle at the middle of this great course.

Taking the pole position in the class, the number 14 RC F GT3 lead the GTD crowd around Road America. As the competition heated up, the Lexus team was caught up in traffic all race long. In the end, both RC GT3s finished fifth and sixth in class. The 14 car of Telitz and Hawksworth finished 15 seconds ahead of the number 12 car of Veach and Montecalvo.

The next stops for the Vasser Sullivan Lexus Motorsports team will be on this side of the country. Vasser Sullivan will be set to take on the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca for the Monterey Sports Car Championship on Sunday, September 12. You can catch the race on the NBC Sports Network at 1:00 PM PT.
