Was Lexus recognized in the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study results?
One of the most recognized and respected authorities in the automotive industry is without a doubt J.D. Power. A consumer intelligence company, J.D. Power has been conducting benchmarking studies for decades in a number of industries and countries around the world; however, the longest-running studies revolve around the automotive industry, and include such staples as the U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. Since the results of this study for 2023 were just released, we thought you might be interested in the fact that Lexus was recognized by the organization!

How does the VDS work?
J.D. Power surveys owners of 3-year-old vehicles to find information about the number and types of problems that those owners have encountered with their vehicle. This data is not only used by consumers to determine the least problematic brands to shop from, but also by manufacturers to help them design better vehicles all around. When evaluating vehicles for 2023, the company looked at nine total categories: Exterior, Driving Experience, Features/Controls/Display (FCD), Driving Assistance, Infotainment, Seats, Climate, Interior and Powertrain. In the end, every brand and vehicle tackled within the study receives a score based on the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), so the lowest score “wins.”
How did Lexus fare?
Well, we already mentioned that Lexus was recognized in the Vehicle Dependability Study for 2023, but that doesn’t exactly tell us much… so let’s dive into more details. Not only was Lexus recognized, but it was recognized as the #1 overall vehicle and #1 premium vehicle, having the lowest number of problems of any brand on the market with only 133 PP100 in comparison to the industry average of 186. In addition to Overall, Premium and Mass Market brand categories, there are a number of model-level awards handed out for various industry segments. The Lexus NX was recognized for the Compact Premium SUV segment, while the RX won for the Midsize Premium SUV segment. Finally, the Lexus RX also tied with the Toyota C-HR for the Most Dependable Model overall.
