Electric vehicles are all the rage right now, and car companies are making more and more strides with them. However, some customers are still wary of going full electric. EV owners need to decide on a home charger, sometimes you need to map out a special way of traveling if you are going long distances to make sure you’re near charging stations. Many people still have concerns about the lack of charging infrastructure in the Las Vegas area. This is why Lexus has made sure that customers have another option with the 2024 RX 450h+, a plug-in hybrid that has the ultimate luxury.

Gas + Battery Power

With the RX 450h+, you get the best of both worlds: an electric battery pack that allows the vehicle to be driven up to 37 miles on a single charge while still having a gas-powered motor that acts as a charger for the battery system when it becomes depleted. Think of it as a range extender. And, when you are back home, or if you are near a public charging station, you can charge the vehicle to run solely on electricity when driving around town if you prefer.

No Compromise

Lexus has truly given customers no reason to compromise. In a recent review of the 2024 Lexus RX 450h+, Cars.com found that the plug-in hybrid gave them the ultimate confidence with its comfort, ease of driving, and the ability to charge the battery system while using the gas motor to drive around: “My brief 30-minute stint in the RX 450h+

started off in gas-electric hybrid mode, not electric-only mode, because the battery had been drained by multiple test drives prior to my own. Although the battery is meant to be charged using a Level 2 charging system — and can do so in about 2.5 hours thanks to its onboard 6.6-kilowatt charger (DC fast charging is not available) — it also has a charge mode in which the engine will run both to provide propulsion and to charge the battery. I used this mode when I got in the RX, and after a 15-mile drive to a turnaround point, the gauge cluster meter told me I’d built up a couple of miles of electric range. I then switched it into EV Mode and drove back to the starting point.”

Engine

The RX 450h+ features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gas motor that produces 180 horsepower and 168 lb-ft of torque. The battery system is a high-capacity lithium-ion battery that pairs perfectly with the vehicle, giving a combined horsepower output of 304.

Cars.com also said, “In hybrid mode, the RX drives like most Toyota-based hybrids – smooth and quiet, with gasoline-to-electric transitions that are silky smooth and unobtrusive. Toyota and Lexus are the original masters of this kind of powertrain, and it shows in just how refined and lovely they are to drive today. And when you switch it into EV Mode, it only gets better.”

Performance and Safety

While luxury is of the utmost importance, the RX 450h+ is able to get to 60 mph in just 6.2 seconds, which is rather quick for a non-performance-oriented crossover SUV.

When it comes to safety, the plug-in Lexus crossover has some of the best technology to keep everyone safe with the standard Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 that features Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection, Proactive Driving Assist (PDA), Road Sign Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Intelligent High Beam, and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management (DRCC).
