Lexus Takes 1-2 at Daytona in IMSA Return

After some thunderstorms on July 4th, the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus returned to competition in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship. The Lexus duo qualified at 2nd and 4th prior to the race.

The IMSA WeatherTech 240 at Daytona started with Adam Telitz leading the GTD class in the number 14 Lexus RC F GT3.

Telitz and Jack Hawksworth owned the GTD class for most of the two hour and forty minute race on the same course the Rolex 24 Hours is run on. Frank Montecalvo and Townsend Bell raced through the midpoint in second in the GTD class in the number 12 RCF GT3.

As night fell, the RC F GT3 twins continued to run 1-2 in the class. In the end, Hawksworth took the top class podium with Bell right behind him by under seven seconds. The fireworks over Daytona signed one great start-to-finish run for the twin black-and-yellow honeycomb RC F GT3s

With the reboot of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship, the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus team will now shift to the old airbase – Sebring. Instead of a 12-hour race, it will only run for two hours and forty minutes. You can catch that on the NBC Sports Network on Saturday, July 18 at 2:30 PM PT.
