Lexus RC F GT3 Takes Top 5 Finishes at VIR, Atlanta

September 14th, 2020 by

All streaks must come to an end. Unfortunately for the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus Motorsports team, it ended at Virginia International Raceway on its annual stop of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship circuit.

The number 14 Lexus RC F GT3 of Aaron Telitz and Jack Hawksworth finished fifth in the GTD class, while Frank Montecalvo and Townsend Bell finished tenth in the number 12 RCF GT3. There had been some weather hitting southwestern Virginia through practice and qualifying of the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR.

Things were looking up for the team as the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship returned to its home base of the Michelin Raceway at Road Atlanta for the Tire Rack Grand Prix. This is the second “endurance” race for the teams, as they now have six hours to run on this tough road course.

At the finish line, the RC F GT3 twins finished in the same fifth and tenth place positions in GTD as they did at VIR. The numbers 12 and 14 cars finished in the same order.

Next stop for the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus Motorsports team will be at Mid-Ohio. You can catch the race using your TrackPass on NBC Sports Gold or on IMSA TV on Sunday, September 27 at 12:05 PM PT. You can catch the replay of the race on NBC Sports Network at 9:00 PM PT.
