Lexus Racing Takes on the Long Beach Grand Prix
This year’s Lexus Racing team is promising, and it’s ready to take on the next race in its series: the Long Beach Grand Prix. It’s a unique way to experience a Lexus tuned to the raceway rather than the street, and it’s one of the biggest street races there is. Race attendees can watch the power and performance of the Lexus RC F GT3 as it takes on the corners of Long Beach and races toward the top of the podium.
Rally-Ready Lexus Performance
As the longest-running major street race in North America, the Long Beach Grand Prix has a rich history of bringing the power to Long Beach. It started as a Formula One race, morphing over the years to include rally cars and more into an event that draws in 200,000 spectators. The race takes on different layouts that circle the Long Beach Convention Center. It’s a 1.968-mile circuit weaves through 11 twists and turns, lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes.
This year, the Lexus RC F GT3 will take part in the April 15 race in Long Beach. This race-ready coupe is different than the street car version with a few tweaks to make it more suitable to the track. It uses the same engine layout and body design, but the body is thoughtfully crafted with carbon to reduce weight and boost speed. The exhausts are moved to the sides in the racing version of the GT3, and the front and rear fenders are redesigned to be more aerodynamic. Its front-end design forces air to the rear, which is also designed to create the necessary downforce.
The Lexus driving team has 12 wins split among them. Their skill and quick thinking allow them to operate the high-powered GT3, racing their way to victory in races around the globe. Although the GT3 is available to consumers, it truly takes a skilled driver to navigate races like the Long Beach Grand Prix at the speeds needed to top the podium. Based on the street car, the GT3 boasts a 5.3L V8 engine and an extra 7.3 inches of width to accommodate the racetrack – or street, in this case. Most recently, Lexus Racing placed in 2nd and 5th place with the GT3 and has high hopes for the race in Long Beach.
