The Weathertech Sports Car Champion Kicks Off

The Rolex 24 at Daytona kicked off the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with some dramatic finishes. For the Lexus Racing Vasser Sullivan team, it was a cause for celebration.

In its first race in the GTD Pro class, the Number 14 RC F GT3 car finished fourth. That is considered a great outing for a new entrant in its class. The work that Ben Barnicoat, Jack Hawksworth, and Kyle Kirkwood put into for this endurance race was a breakthrough for Lexus.

The Number 14 car missed the podium by a mere fraction, keeping up the top three cars in its class on the same lap. They were a part of one of the best finishes in the history of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. Even better, the Vasser Sullivan Lexus finished well ahead of the rest of the pack in the GTD Pro class. This year, 13 GTD Pro cars ran in this year’s Rolex 24.

Meanwhile, the Number 12 RC F GT3 car of Aaron Teliz, Frankie Montecalvo, Townsend Bell, and Richard Heistand finished 15th in the GTD class.

The Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 entries return to the track in the iconic Mobil 12 Hours of Sebring presented by Advance Auto Parts on March 19.
