Lexus Plans its Eco-Conscious “Lexus Electrified” Evolution
With the Lexus RZ 450E battery electric compact crossover now in the Lexus of Las Vegas showroom, Lexus has become a player in the luxury electric vehicle game. The “Z” in the name stands for “Zero,” as in zero emissions, and there will be more “Z” vehicles to follow. However, Lexus is quick to point out that electric vehicles are not the only way to reduce carbon emissions, and its Eco-Conscious “Lexus Electrified” Evolution will reflect this.
A Diverse Electrified Approach
Lexus believes that the future of electric vehicles will be versatile, anticipatory, and centered on elevating the consumer’s driving and ownership experience. A new marketing campaign called “Lexus Electrified” shows how people are the inspiration behind the versatility of the Lexus Electrified line of vehicles.
Lexus has the credentials as they pioneered electrification in the luxury automotive market with the introduction of the world’s first luxury hybrid sport utility vehicle, the RX 400h, in 2005. The electrification of the model lineup has since increased to the point that there is now a hybrid version of the UX, NX, RX, ES, LS, and LC model lines with a Plugin Hybrid model for the NX crossover. Lexus refutes hybrids as a half-measure. In an environment where raw materials for batteries are limited, Lexus’s parent company has pointed out that using a 100 kWh battery to make six plug-in hybrid vehicles or 90 hybrids results in a greater reduction of carbon emissions than when it is placed in one EV.
“When it comes to our guests’ mobility needs, we know that one size does not fit all. That’s why we created an electrified driving experience with a variety of powertrains that can cater to and elevate any lifestyle,” said Vinay Shahani, vice president of Lexus marketing. “With sophisticated style, impeccable craftsmanship, and the support of our amazing nationwide dealer network, our electrified vehicles deliver an immersive luxury experience inspired by our guests.”
Under its “Lexus Electrified” vision, Lexus states it will work toward carbon neutrality in a way that is accessible for every customer through a variety of powertrains that cater to their individual needs. So rather than put all its eggs in the EV basket, Lexus will continue to add to its electrified portfolio of products a mix of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and battery electric vehicles (BEV) to provide the luxury electrification experience that meets and exceeds the needs and expectations of luxury auto buyers. And by 2035, Lexus aims to achieve 100% BEVs in all models globally.
Sustainability and Excitement
“This coming ‘Lexus Electrified’ evolution is a continuation of those environmentally conscious values. Said Lexus in a corporate statement. “Vehicles like the Lexus RZ and BEV Sport concept are windows into Lexus’ new “EV era” where premium battery-electric vehicles will be the future symbol of Lexus—moving Lexus models closer to carbon neutrality while also delivering an exhilarating driving experience.“
“And it’s this exhilaration aspect of Lexus’ goal that’s especially key to Lexus BEV models like the Lexus RZ.”, says Koji Sato, recent president of Lexus International and now President of Toyota Motor Corporation. “It should be environmentally conscious…but straight-up fun to drive!”
‘Lexus Electrified’ will provide an opportunity for even more Lexus variety and fun-to-drive models. Lexus of Las Vegas customers will find an increasing choice of Lexus models that are sustainably-minded green but red-hot with excitement.
