The world has been patiently waiting to see what would come as the successor to Lexus’s legendary supercar, the LFA.

Awaiting a Worthy Successor

After production of the original LFA ceased in 2012, many enthusiasts anticipated a successor. While Lexus initially ruled out plans for a new LFA, the company later spoke of the possibility of a new supercar in development.

In 2014, we heard Lexus was considering engine choice for its upcoming high-performance coupe, which would be based on the LC concept. Under discussion was a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine with about 600 horsepower. Although rumors and speculation continued to surface until the official unveiling of LC in 2016, there was no truth to them.

Even in 2018, we did not know what Lexus had to offer before its endurance racing program with the LC 500. A year later, the wait was over as Lexus officially revealed the TTV8 engine, a 5.0-liter twin-turbo. Apparently, Lexus aimed to use a number of advanced technologies like the new V8 engine to ensure a smooth racing experience at the Nürburgring 24-hour race.

Reports Surfacing about Using a Racing Powertrain

In early 2022, Lexus unveiled an electric concept car that raised hopes for a new electric-powered LFA. But as Japanese magazine Mag-X later claimed, a racing engine would be used in LFA II. According to this report, the new Lexus LFA will be equipped with the same powertrain used in the Lexus LC endurance racer.

All in all, as reports suggest, supercar enthusiasts, especially Lexus fans, might get their money’s worth. After all, Lexus would love to show off its prowess in Monterey.
