The Lexus brand has had a stronghold in the racing industry for years, but only in 2017 at the Rolex 24, in Daytona Lexus debuted the Lexus RC F GT3. Manned by Team Vasser Sullivan, the car sped its way into the winner’s circle several times over the past five years.
Four drivers are handling the Number 12 car in the GT Daytona Series. Bell, Heistand, Montecalvo, and Telitz have all been ranking drivers for Team Vasser Sullivan. There are three drivers behind the wheel for the newer GT Daytona Pro Series, in the Number 14 car; Hawksworth, Kirkwood, and Barnicoat.
Most recently, Lexus secured two top-ten winning spots in the Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio. Driver Aaron Telitz secured position three in the race with the fastest lap time of one minute and twenty-two seconds. Jack Hawksworth scored a shorter fastest lap time of one minute and twenty-one seconds sliding into finish in seventh position.
The Lexus Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio took place on May 15, 2022, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and consisted of 2.258 miles. Sponsored by WeatherTech, this race consisted of thirteen turns that showed the drivers’ true skill and cemented the place of Team Vasser Sullivan in the record books.
Coming next, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, sponsored by Lear, a 2.35 mile, fourteen turn course that takes place at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park has Team Vasser Sullivan hopeful for additional victories in the Lexus Number 12 and 14 cars. Six additional races lined up over the summer should prove fascinating for race fans, as Team Vasser Sullivan steers toward success.
On Sunday, June 5, 2022 you can tune into NBC to keep a close eye on the drivers for Team Vasser Sullivan and hopefully see the Number 12 and Number 14 cars speed into victory. Upcoming races also include Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, a 3.4 mile race at Watkins Glen International on June 23-26, 2022 and the Chevrolet Grand Prix on July 1-3, 2022 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
