Chip Shapiro, Our Friendly IT Director
IT Director at Lexus of Las Vegas
If there is one person everybody likes, it’s Chip Shapiro, your friendly IT Director.
Chip is from Minneapolis where he stayed until age 18 when he followed his girlfriend to California, (they later got married in 1974). They moved to Las Vegas in 1988 where he got his first job fixing cars at Nissan on East Sahara. (Chip has been around cars since he was 9 years old.) Later he went on to Infiniti and finally ended up at Lexus in 2003. Chip notes that all of his jobs in Las Vegas have been on Sahara Ave.
Shortly after joining Lexus he volunteered for a part-time position helping out in IT and was so good at it that he became the full-time IT person. After 37 years, he officially stopped fixing cars for a living.
Chip knows computers and has been computer-literate since 1990, back in the days when you had to log into the new thing called the “internet” on a dial-up modem over a phone line in order to access bulletin boards and play computer games. Speaking of computer games, his favorite is “Flight Simulator.”
In his spare time Chip golfs, and might practice 3-4 times a week at the Rhodes Ranch practice facility. He is a big Golden Knights fan.
Food-wise he enjoys any cuisine. Mexican, Italian, you name it. However, his favorite restaurant was a kind of Asian fusion place in Minneapolis with tasty chow mein noodles that sadly has since closed down.
If Chip has a secret power, it’s that he loves to fix computers and is a whizz with almost anything mechanical (though not cars anymore). He jokingly requests, however, that people do not ask him to fix their toasters.
Chip has two grown-up kids and three grandchildren aged 8, 6, and 5.
