2024 Lexus TX: Design and Features
As a dedicated 3-row luxury crossover, the TX has been long awaited by Lexus owners and fans. Indeed, Lexus took their time with this model’s powertrains, size, design, and features. So that none of those fans and owners will be disappointed. This Lexus of Henderson post takes a closer look at those last two aspects, the TX design and features.
An Exterior That Is All Lexus From Bumper to Bumper
Though smaller than the body-on-frame constructed LX SUV, the proportions of the TX clearly show that this is a vehicle with room. A key Lexus goal is that there would be no need to negotiate for the front or middle seats because all seats would be desirable. That is clear from the outside by the sizable space behind the rear doors, as well as the large rear side window for 3rd-row passengers.
The front features the latest version of the Lexus spindle grill. It is the lower portion of the spindle formed by slats integrated within the bodywork itself. Those openings efficiently regulate airflow and cool the front brakes even as they are optimized to lower the drag coefficient. Other aerodynamic elements include airflow-regulating fins, a roof spoiler, and the shape of the rear combination lamps. Flared fenders accentuate the vehicle’s wide track width and strong stance. The slim signature light bar tail lights mirror the headlight and narrow upper spindle design in the front. Balancing the sizable body are large standard 20-inch wheels with 22-inch wheels appearing on upper grades.
An Interior Design That’s as Effective as It Is Attractive
It is a large space inside, and Lexus ensured that all controls and displays are within easy reach of the driver. Standard on the base model are analog gauges flanking a 7-inch multi-information display. For upper grades, this changes to an entire digital driver’s information center.
Just to the right of the driver is a standard 14-inch high-definition touchscreen that is easy to reach and provides clear information for the driver and front passenger. The glass has an anti-reflective coating to realize a vivid display even with the Panorama glass roof. The native operations are similar to those found on smartphones and tablets, though wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM capability enable drivers to use those interfaces as well conveniently.
At the bottom of the screen are permanent often-used menu controls with additional physical controls just below the screen, including knobs for volume and temperature control. Below that are USB-C ports for a direct phone connection that keeps your phone charged when using its interface for long trips, in addition to two other charge ports. There are two ports for 2nd-row passengers and two more for the 3rd-row.
The Drive Connect subscription provides a cloud-based navigation system and the Intelligent Assistant system that responds to voice-activated commands simply by beginning the request with “Hey Lexus”.
The Remote Connect subscription enables Digital Key, which allows you and up to seven authorized guests to access and start the car through their smartphones.
Available is the convenience of the Head-Up Display, in which speed, shift position, driver assist status, and even navigational directions can be safely displayed in front of the driver’s field of vision. The display’s adjustable positioning can be linked to a driver’s seat position memory function.
Also available is the 21-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound system that was specifically tuned for the TX’s cabin. The Mark Levinson QLS (Quantum Logic Surround) sound technology provides stage-like, full-bodied, balanced tones to all passengers regardless of seating position.
Every Seat Is a Good Place to Be
The TX can seat seven with a 60:40 split-folding bench in the 2nd-row or seat six with 2nd-row captain’s chairs configured much like the first-row buckets, including heating and ventilation. 3rd-row passengers enjoy 33.5 inches of legroom and 37.2 inches of headroom. In addition to the USB-C ports, every row has access to storage and versatile cupholders.
Access to the 3rd-row is as easy as pressing a switch on the 2nd-row seat shoulder, causing it to both tilt and slide forward to provide space through the long rear door opening. Standard, Premium and F SPORT Performance Premium grades feature NuLuxe® synthetic leather seat trim. F SPORT Performance Luxury comes standard with smooth, leather-trimmed seating, while the TX 350 and TX 550h+ Luxury grades feature semi-aniline leather trim.
When all seats are used, there is still 20.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind them. If the 3rd-row is not needed, cargo space increases to 57.4 cubic feet. And if neither the 2nd or 3rd-row are needed, the TX can carry 97 cubic feet of cargo while still letting you see through the rear window.
Lexus Safety and Driver Assistance
As may be expected from a Lexus, the TX has a complete set of driver assist and safety technologies, starting with the Lexus Safety System +3.0, which includes:
- Pre-Collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection
- All-speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
- Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
- Emergency Driving Stop System (EDSS)
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
- Road Sign Assist (RSA)
- Proactive Driving Assist (PDA)
The last system – PDA provides gentle braking into curves or gentle braking and/or steering to help keep a proper distance from a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist. Also available is the Advance Park system, which can assist in perpendicular and parallel parking, and Traffic Jam Assist, which can take over the throttle and brakes in stop-and-go traffic.
TX 350 models have already arrived in the Lexus of Henderson inventory as of this writing, with TX 500h possibly by the time you read this. The TX 500h+ plug-in hybrid is scheduled to arrive in early 2024.
